How to revive a stale listing that stopped getting messages

My business has been listed for sale for about 7 months. First 6 weeks I got a decent number of inquiries, but after that it went completely dead. No messages, no views, nothing. I've dropped the price once already. What can I do to get buyers interested again? It's a small service business with steady revenue, owner-operated. I'm not desperate but I do want to move on. Any concrete steps would help.

First thing I'd check is whether the listing still shows up high in search results. Sometimes listings Get buried as newer ones get added. Refresh the photos and rewrite the headline to make it look new.

Stale listings often need a price adjustment, not just a small tweak. If you already dropped it once, consider whether the drop was enough. Buyers watch for repeated reductions too. A single meaningful cut can be better than severwl small ones.

How did you prce it originally? If you used a broker who overvalued it to win the listing, that could be why it died. Happens a lot. Maybe get a second opinion from someone who values based on actual sold comps.

What's the listing platform? Some are way better than others at generating leads. If it's a smaller site, maybe you need to be on a bigger one. Also, are you responding to inquiries fast? Slow responses kill momentum.

Also, add more financial detail if you haven't. Serious buyers want to see 3 years of P&L, add-backs, customer concentration. Vague li stings get ignored. That might be why it went quiet after the initial burst.

Could be seasonal too. Service businesses often get more interest at certain times of year. If your listing went live in a slow season, that might explain the drop-off. But 7 months is long enough that something else is probably going on.

Not sure I agree with just refreshing photos. Buyers who saw it before will recognize it. The bigger issue might be that the listing looks like a retread. If you relist, maybe take it down completely and wait a few weeks so it doesn't show as a stale repost.

Have you considered seller financing? That can widen the buyer pool a lot. Many small business buyers can't get conventional financing, so offering terms might bring messages back. It's a bigger commitment though.

One more thing: ask the platform for analytics. If views are still happening but no messages, your listing might have a conversion problem. If views are also dead, it's a visibility problem. Different fixes.

Agree with quill above. Seller financing was what finally got my listing moving after months of nothing. Not for everyone but worth thinking about. Also, make sure your contact info is currnet. I once had a listing with an old phone number and didn't realize it for weeks.
