Hey folks, I'm getting ready to sell my 2018 F-250 work truck. It's got about 120k miles, ladder rack, tool boxes, and some company decals that I'll need to remove. Mechanically solid, but it's definitely a work vehicle with scratches and dings. I want to get top dollar for it, but I'm not sure where to start. Should I fix it up first? Sell privately or trade in? Any advice would be appreciated.
How do I get top dollar when I sell my commercial work truck?
Pictures. Lots of pictures. Clean it up real good, take pics of the engine bay, undercarrieage, interior. Don't hide the scratches but show it's been maintained. Also, get a Carfax report ready. People love that.
First off, remove those decal. You don't want to be advertising your old business for free. Then, consider fixing any minor issues like a cracked windshield or worn tires. It might cost a bit but can increase the value. Also, do you have maintenance records? That's a big selling point.
Trade-in is easiest but you'll get less. Private sale is more work but usually more money. Depends on how much time you have. If you go private, list it on multiple sites: Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and maybe some commercial truck specific sites. Good luck!
All good poindts. I'd also add: get it detailed professionally. A clean truck looks like it's been cared for. And price it right - check similar trucks in your area to see what they're going for. Don't overprice because it's 'yours'.
also, if you have a ladder rack and tool boxes, some buyers might not want them. Maybe offer to remove them for a lower price? Just a thought.
I disagree, those extras can be a selling point for someone who needs them. Leave them on but don't charge extra for them.
Yeah, leave them. But make sure they're in good condition. Nobody wants rusty tool boxes.
Thanks for the tips. I'll start with a good cleaning and get some pics. I do have maintenance records, so that's good. Any advice on where to list it for commercial buyers? I want to target businesses, not just individuals.
