Listings

Does adding photos and videos actually help listings sell?

I'm about 18 months out from listing my business and trying to figure out where to put my effort. I've seen some listings with tons of photos and a video, but I'm not sure if that's what actually moves the needle. My broker says it helps but I'm skeptical. Anyone have direct experience one way or the other?

I sold a light manufacturing business two years ago. We had a professional video walkthrough and a photo ggallery of the shop floor. I don't know if it directly caused the sale, but it cut down on the tire-kickers. People who watched the video were more serious when they called.

short answer, no. buyers want the last 3 years of financials, not a slideshow.

I think it depends on the type of business. If you're selling a restaurant or retail location, photos of the space matter a lot because the physical location is part of the product. For a service business that runs out of a small office, photos are mostly irrelevant. The buyer cares about recurring revenue annd customer concentration.

That makes sense. Mine is a service business with a small office, so maybe that's why I'm unsure. Did either of you get feedback from buyers on the photos?

One guy mentoned the video helped him visualize the operation, but he was the one who ended up buying. So maybe it did matter for the serious buyer.

i've been on the buy side. I skip listings with no photos. It signals that the seller isn't serious or that there's something to hide. Even a few basic photos of the office and and equipment tell me the seller is at least trying. A video is a bonus but not required.

There's also the question of confidentiality. If you have a video walkthrough of your facility, you might inadvertently reveal customer names on whiteboards or something. I'm more cautious about videos for that reason.

Agreed. I've seen listings where the video was just a slow pan of an empty office. That's not adding value. If you're going to do it, do it well or skip it.

Good points on confidentiality. I might do a couple of staged photos and a short video that shows the office and and a few key systems without any customer info. Thanks for the input.
