Can a post in a trade association group help sell a business?

I'm selling my HVAC company and was wondering if posting in my local trade association's private Facebook group would actually generate leads. Has anyone tried this? I'm not looking to spam, just want to know if it's worth the effort.

Depends on the group. Most trade groups I'm in are pretty strict about self-promotion. You might get booted if you post a for-sale ad without permission.

GrumpyMechanic is right. But if you ask the admin first, sometimes they'll let you post in a dedicated 'marketplace' thread. i've seen it work for equipment sales, not sure about selling a whole business though.

Honestly, trade association groups are more for networking, and advice. Buyers looking to acquire a business are usually on bizbuysell or working with brokers. Just my two cents.

I tried this last year with a plumbing business. Got a few curious messages but no serious offers. The group was mostly smaller operators who weren't in a position to buy. Your mileage may vary.

Wait, you're selling an HVAC company? I might know someone. What's the revenue range? Feel free to DM me.

See, this is exactly why some groups ban for-sale posts. Turns into a mini marketplace and clutters the feed. Not saying it can't work, but be prepared for mixed reactions.

VintageVibes, you're proving my point. The OP might get lucky, but it's a long shot. Better to cast a wider net.

I'd say go for it, but don't expect miracles. And definitely ask the admin first. Worst case, you get a few leads and maybe a conversation starter.
